No. 41 – Imperial Dragon – 22" Necklace
A one-of-a-kind necklace of imperial Chinese authority — dark, commanding, and centred on a pendant that carries the full symbolic weight of the dragon: power, protection, and the highest order of natural beauty.
The long strand is built on matte black onyx rounds, their velvety darkness creating one of the most elegant possible grounds for what follows. A single large textured gold nugget bead introduces a flash of imperial warmth at the crown of the piece, and a handful of frosted grey quartz rounds add subtle tonal variation within the dark palette. A gold toggle clasp finishes the piece with clean, considered luxury.
The pendant is extraordinary: a large rectangular silver frame worked in deeply carved openwork relief — two imperial dragons facing each other across the face of the piece, their forms sinuous and detailed in the highest tradition of Chinese decorative metalwork. At the centre, a large oval deep green jade or nephrite cabochon of exceptional colour sits in absolute command, flanked above and below by two smaller round jade cabochons that echo and amplify its richness. The pendant is the kind of object that feels genuinely antique — weighted, worked, and invested with centuries of symbolic meaning.
Photographed on a dark walnut tea tray beside scattered black obsidian chips, polished jade tumbles and scattered gold leaf flakes, against a background of embroidered cloud-pattern silk — an unmistakably imperial setting.
Impression: Imperial, authoritative, and deeply beautiful. Imperial Dragon is for the collector who understands that jade is not merely green — it is the stone that civilisations have built their highest values around.
