No. 62 – Relics of the Traveler – 21" Necklace
A one-of-a-kind necklace built around one of the most sacred objects in Tibetan devotional tradition — a ghau, or prayer box, worn close to the body as protection and blessing on every journey taken.
The strand is an earthy, well-travelled assembly: dark brown wood heishi rounds form the grounding base, joined by small deep blue lapis rounds, vivid red coral chips, cream white bone or howlite rounds, turquoise rounds, and small multicolour seed beads. Each material is a nod to a different ancient trade route, a different culture, a different stopping point on a very long journey. Together they feel like a collection built over years rather than assembled in an afternoon.
The pendant is extraordinary and entirely singular: a large Tibetan silver ghau prayer box with a rectangular form, its border decorated with intricate deity figural relief work — protective Buddhist iconography worked in fine cast silver. At the centre, a cylindrical prayer scroll chamber sits open and visible, holding whatever intention the wearer chooses to place inside. A ghau is not merely jewellery. It is an object of protection, devotion, and deeply personal meaning.
Photographed on a carved wooden chest beside a raffia-tied leather travel journal and a sprig of dried juniper — objects of the road, the ritual, and the written word.
Impression: Sacred, storied, and completely irreplaceable. Relics of the Traveler is for the collector who understands that the most meaningful objects are the ones that carry prayers inside them.
